The Premises, Kensington, Melbourne

CJ and I made our way to Kensington by 8.30am to avoid the Mother’s Day rush. We needn’t have bothered, it was quiet as can be. We chose the cafe with the best rating on Zomato, The Premises. It’s an unassuming cafe, quite a weird seating plan.

CJ was cliche ordered the scrambled eggs with avo mash special while I tried something a little different, the mezze bowl.

CJ’s scrambled eggs were beautiful and silky (I know because I tried them) and the avo & feta went well. My mezze bowl was beautifully arranged on the plate, the cold soft boiled eggs, eggplant and pomegranate were my picks from the plate. I couldn’t get anywhere near finishing the entire plate.

Two other meals I saw come out were presented absolutely beautifully. I presume one was a banana bread with toffee and apple over it and the other was the Mother’s Day pancakes with strawberries and meringue.

Unfortunately for me while they did have chai, it was chai tea leaves and not the sugary syrup. Having lived in Canada, I became hooked on the syrup there and the tea leaves taste terrible to me and make my tongue numb. The waitress tried to feign her disgust in my taste when I explained, didn’t work so well for her.

If I went back, I’d go when I had a craving for something sweet.
