Yum Yum Peking Duck, Stones Corner, Brisbane

Yum Yum Peking Duck in Stones Corner would have to be one of the most unassuming restaurants I’ve been to in Brisbane.

The service is the first thing you will notice. This is a family run restaurant and the service is fantastic. Both efficient and very friendly.

We chose the three course Peking duck, the second option with the Peking duck pancakes, san choi bao with duck meat and duck fried rice – it was AMAZING. Excellent value and fantastic food.

First of all, the duck is bought out and carved at your table. It looks perfectly crispy and your first bite of the pancake with cucumber, shallots and hoisin sauce seconds this. The skin is crispy, the duck tender and as always a lovely contrast with the cucumber in the pancake.

After the duck is carved onto the pancakes, the remaining meat is taken away to create the other dishes. In our case, the san choi bao with duck meat and shredded duck fried rice. Both dishes were superb.

We also tried some steamed oysters and the Szechaun beef from the menu – delightful.

Now you’d think we would be done. But when there was an offer to try Banh Mi and home made dim sum before the kitchen closed and the food so far was that good, you don’t say no. The home made dim sum was beautiful – highly recommend.

What I also loved about this restaurant was that everything was homemade or sourced locally. For instance, the bread for the Banh Mi was made by the owner’s nephew in Yeronga.

Did I mention it’s also BYO with no corkage fee?
