New York – Day Three

After hopping into bed at 7am I slept until about 10 when John and Chrissy got up.

Jay came home in a fluster, her card wouldn’t work in the cab and the cabbie was waiting downstairs for payment. Not only did John run down and pay for her cab but her bought her a coffee up too.

We all sat around and chatted, I was trying to keep my eyes open. Eventually Jay and I tried to nap again for a few hours but my berrocca had kicked in and I had no luck falling asleep.

It was my NZ/ Aus bday so I skyped my family and opened some of my lovely gifts they had sent over. I told them I wish it would snow.

We had pre-booked a brunch with a bottle of champagne, 8 welcome cocktails and a pitcher of mimosa so was eager to get there.

I’d lost my stockings and Jay didn’t have any so we rushed to the chemist to grab some before the brunch. Coming out of the chemist, it started to snow. I squealed I was so happy.

When we arrived at Hotel Chantelle, they didn’t have our booking, didn’t know about the event and weren’t going to honour our vouchers. Plus the kitchen had closed. What a mess. We mucked around waiting for ages and they finally said we could order breakfast, they’d keep the kitchen open. Long story short, when they finally honoured our vouchers we ended up with HEAPS of alcohol, too much in fact so we invited people over to drink it with us.

When we went to leave they true to charge me for all the alcohol. Then they screwed up the receipt, then again. Then my card wouldn’t work so I had to run to the bank. By now the snow was falling heavily and everything was white.

Back upstairs at the bar they’d screwed up the bill again! I had to find the me manger myself. Not impressed.

We met John back at the apartment for some drinks then went out for more drinks. We went to Harlem for ribs – holy moly they were good. They get their own blog post too.

We kicked on back in midtown for some drinks and walked home at midnight which turned into my Northern America bday.

Home for a decent nights sleep before our last day in NYC.

New York – Day Two

After sleeping off our hangovers we didn’t really get up and going until later on in the day.

We walked straight up to Central Park, me with a hot dog in hand. We wandered around briefly while being accosted by men trying to get us on their bikes and horse carts.

In the park we walked around just taking in the sights. We walked out and continued over to 5th ave and Madison Ave to do some shopping.

For my birthday I bought new Michael Kors perfume and a small clutch to match my big clutch. Nearly bought a few other items too but managed to keep my credit card safe.

We had lunch at the Green Cafe after finding out the restaurant on level 9 of Barney’s had a 40minute wait. I almost wish we waited. I had a fig, apple and blue cheese sandwich but the bread was old and it wasn’t as nice as I had hoped.

We skipped over to Times Square (in taxi coz they’re cheap and I felt lazy) and again just took in all the sights. It was super packed so we headed to the shops and I bought an outfit.

Back at home we met John, Chrissy and their friends for some drinks and had a blast. When they left for dinner we jumped in the shower and got ready for that night when John’s colleague, Troy took us out.

First up, Crouton Reservoir Tavern where we had some delicious appies and drinks. Thanks to Chad for looking after us.

We then headed over to the lower east side where we bar hopped. Sixth Ward, Fat Baby, Hair of the Dog and for the finale, The Box.

I have always, always wanted to go to The Box! Last year when I was in NYC we tried to get in after a friend told me about it. We offered the guy on the door a fair amount of cash and yet still not cookie. This year we managed to we in. I was so excited! And it was awesome. I will do another blog about it.

At this point we lost Jay but Troy & I partied on, going to his mates bar that had closed and waiting around for them until around 6am. Breakfast is the obvious thing to do at that time so we went to my fave Bryant Deli for another egg, bacon and cheese roll, melted to perfection. Delicious! Love that place.

Back at the apartment I thought John was staying in Long Beach, turned out he’d messaged saying he was staying but I had missed it. Troy & I snuck in and ate our breakfast while he deliberated whether to crash on the couch or catch the first train back to New Jersey. He chose the train and I crashed out.

Massive night and massive thanks to Troy for looking after us and showing us around – had the best time!!

New York – Day One

We arrived in NYC after only about 3 hours sleep. Exhausted, we took the train to Jamaica station then the subway to 42nd and walked from there to where we were staying at my old bosses apartment.

We had been left entry to the apartment so after a chat with concierge we headed up to the 44th floor and after awwing at the amazing view hopped straight into bed for a nap. We woke up about 11 and did some quick shopping before meeting John at 5.

John, ever the gracious host immediately pulls out a glass of wine for us and has and chat before he headed off to Long Beach. We continued on drinking the headed out.

Crazy night.

Started at Liberty where I’ve been before and is full of Aussie bartenders. We picked their brains for places to go before meeting some men at the bar who took us to this fantastic venue which I don’t know the name of or where it is haha.

After there we went to Ace Hotel but it was packed so we ended up leaving for the Standard Hotel and I talked our way up to a club way up high with an amazing view. There was a security dude inside the hotel who was telling us we wouldn’t get in. I kept talking and eventually he said he would try get us in. He text his buddy and eventually said if we go to the second door and tell the security my name and code word delta, we should be able to get in. We were ushered to the front and inside the elevator!

We got home around 4am I think? It was a great night!
