The last two weeks

I haven’t blogged much recently, reason being my last two weeks have been my last two weeks in Vancouver and I have been flat out!

Between arranging everything to leave, working my ass off with huge work days to get everything complete and trying to see all my friends life has certainly kept me on my toes.

I finished my last day at work on Friday and had to some goodbye to some wonderful people. They asked me to stay on and I’m now the Virtual Digital Marketing Manager. I will be looking after the social media and online content from home. I had a fantastic boss and team, I learnt a lot in a short period of time.

I’ve had numerous leaving dinners and lunches and drinks, been exhausted and oh so thankful for berrocca and multivitamins. It’s a shame I can’t have coke, coffee or red bull – I could’ve done with some recently!

I’m now in the states for the next week, road tripping from LA to San Diego via Palm Springs then a few nights in Vegas before I fly home for my leaving party then out the next day. It never stops and to be honest, I quite like it that way! Nobody can say I don’t make the most of my time.

Akira Sushi, West End

So cheap and fresh!

We shared edamame, gyoza, agedashi tofu and I had salmon and avo sushi with miso while Carso had a huge sushi platter with all different varieties.

So good! Would def go back. Right on the corner of Pendrell and Denman.

Parlour Leaving Party

It wasn’t supposed to be a leaving party. But that’s what everyone called it. I just wanted all my friends together for dinner before my holiday.

I love love love The Parlour in Yaletown, Vancouver. Not sure if I’ve told you before but their Goldmember pizza BLOWS my mind! It’s essentially potato with mushrooms and truffle oil. I LOVE it. Truffle oil rocks!

Anyway there was 10 or 11 of us and it was a great night just chatting and eating.

The manager came over to say hi an suggested I have a leaving party a week before I leave. And you know what, I think that’s a great idea!

Bring on the month of leaving parties!

Moving & Dinner with K&K

Last night I moved. A little rushed but was easier than expected thanks to K&K’s beast!

We did a drop off of my bedding to Carso, picked up my glasses from Billy’s and dropped the rest at Jay’s place.

Finally back at Ka Lei & Kieran’s it was dinner time! They (Kieran) had cooked a huge bolognaise, the sauce had 10 different veggies in it!

My stance on mince (used to hate it) is obviously changing as I really enjoyed the meal.

We drank some wine and chatted until we realised how late it was and Ka Lei braved the roads (she’s learning to drive on the other side in the massive truck) to take me home.

Lovely night, makes me think of how much I will miss all my friends when I go. But that’s the thing about travelling. Everytime you leave, a little part of your heart stays too.

Rodney’s Oyster House Yaletown

We got in just in time for the ‘Low Tide’ menu.

We ordered a dozen raw oysters, the steamed mussels, garlic butter prawns and oysters Rockefeller.

Bread was served first – baked with cranberries, scrumptious. Can’t fault anything we ordered, it was all delish!

Had a pinot noir, it was average but it was a cheap one. It was poured in a short cup too – unusual.

The best thing is the atmosphere. I actually asked if I could get the soundtrack when I left it was so good! I love the layout of the place, we sat at the bar and it’s very social dining.

Great T-shirts you can purchase too! “‘Suck me off’ … the half shell at Rodney’s Ouster Bar”

Great place, I would def go back again!

I’m on a bread ban however so I’m writing this in the cardio bike to work it off – multitasking!

New Year Eve 2014

I had almost decided to stay home for the night when my friend, Rachel called me with tickets to the Vancouver Shangri-La Hotel event. The tickets were $100 each and I’d actually considered going to the event so I didn’t take much encouraging.

I made Merica & I fettuccine carbonara (no cream mmm) to line out stomachs ahead of a big night. We drank an easy rosé with dinner.

Merica had something to celebrate and had saved a bottle of Veuve Cliquot for two years to celebrate with. We popped that and got ready at hers then grabbed a taxi into town.

At just before ten we were the first people there! I thought people would arrive earlier with an impending deadline on 12pm but I guess not.

We met some lovely people and was invited upstairs to a Dom Perignon party. It was packed shoulder to shoulder. We had the count down up there then went back down to the other party to see Rachel DJing.

Took a taxi to Cabana to see everyone I know there and a boogie then home to bed.

Actually I was eating celery sticks and hummus when Scott got in about 3am and gave me a fright!

All in all, a good night but nothing special, not that New Year Eve often is.
