What a weekend! It was so large I’m going to have to break it down into days.
My close friend Lauren flew in from the Gold Coast on Thursday and I immediately dragged the poor thing into a meeting. Luckily I managed to persuade the attendees to meet us at Hardware Lane for brunch so I could make it fairly pleasurable for her.
We had to wait 30 mins for a table but once we were in we were served quickly and the food came out not long after. Lauren and I both had the baked eggs and a juice. Great juices! I can see what all the fuss is about.
After brunch we finished checking into our hotel, Welcome Mercure, on Little Bourke (perfect location, right by David Jones & Myer) before heading into town to explore.
I took Lauren for a walk along Elizabeth & Exhibition Streets and the new Emporium Centre then down to Flinders Station, across to South Bank and back through the station, ending up in Hosier Lane.
I’ve been here 3 months and never been down Hosier Lane. How I missed it, I have no clue, what an awesome place! Every inch is covered in graffiti which regularly changes. In fact there were two artists there while we were there too so we had the pleasure to watch them at work. One even took the photo of the two of us together. He had recently arrived from Virginia, Canada.
We walked over to the Rialto Towers and were ushered up to the Lui Bar. Ruhee had told me it was a great place to watch the sunset but I wasn’t prepared for just how incredible the view is. Situated on the 55th floor, the bar provides breathtaking views out to Port Melbourne and across the back of the city. Absolutely gorgeous. Not only that but the bar itself is incredible. Top service, top beverages and an amazing cocktail list. We managed to get a place at the bar, Lauren ordered an amazing cocktail and I cursed myself for still being ill and missing out!
Giving Lauren the ‘true’ Melbourne experience, we caught the tram back over to Chin Chin where there was a one hour wait. Instead of waiting there I took Lauren for tea and macaroons. Back at GoGo Bar we waited only a few minutes before being seated at our table.
Chin Chin is renowned for being notoriously busy and taking no reservations. Of course, this night was no different. We ordered an array of dishes and they were all truly flavour sensations. Amazing. So much more on that menu that I would love to try!
We made our way back to the hotel and Lauren was soon snuggled up in bed. With a 4am wake up and dinner at 9pm it had been a massive day!
