Junk, South Bank, Brisbane

Junk nails the funky, fresh and fun Asian food vibe. Unfortunately they forgot to nail the food.

The restaurant has a great fitout. From the steam baskets that feature as chandeliers to the mini drums that are your table numbers, the look is well executed.

You have to offer at the bar (not a fan) but your food quickly comes to the table.

I had seen pics of the dumplings online and being a dumpling fiend, I was excited to try them. They were bland and we didn’t even finish them. I can’t even remember the last time I didn’t finish dumplings! I don’t think it has happened before. Blasphemy.

I chose the ramen, and while the price is low, I expected some sort of quality. Noodles were cheap, although the broth wasn’t bad.

If I was the owners, I’d add a few dollars to each meal and work in improving the quality of ingredients and taste. The cool atmosphere will get people in the door but the flavours (or lack of) will customers not returning.

** UPDATE: I went back again a few months later and it still needed work. Read about it HERE
