Canapes and Crab Feast At St James Crabhouse, Brisbane

WOW. Just wow. Quite possibly the best crab I have ever had and canapes to blow your socks off!

I’ve visited St James Crabhouse in Kangaroo Point and loved it so I was super excited to visit their new Brisbane location, in Hamilton.

We started with canapes. Beautiful, delicious little canapes. We were lucky to get a sneak peek at St James Crabhouse newest offerings…

  • corn fritters with prawn remoulade with beautiful (and delicious) blue wild caviar – not only stunning in presentation but lovely and fresh and tasty.
  • fried prawns in sweet chilli – truly moreish. I just wanted more!
  • crab bol-au-vents – pastry, crab, need I say more?
  • scallop with avo puree and Yarra Valley caviar – this one was my absolute favorite. The caviar pops in your mouth and all the flavours mesh together to make one very happy mouthful.

My only compliant? There wasn’t enough! Haha I could have eaten plates and plates (we had a tonne of food coming) it was just so delicious. Be sure to check out the pics.

St James Crabhouse are launching in house functions where you can use the space for Christmas parties or events and this amazing menu will be featured. Highly recommend and all very easy to consume with a drink in hand – most important during a corporate function if you ask me!

Next up? The entrees. Melt-in-your-mouth five spice pork belly, drool-worthy twice cooked chicken wings, not-to-miss crab cakes and onion rings!!! Oh yes. We were happy little diners and we weren’t even at the main course yet!

Oh I forgot – I washed all of this down with a bloody mary. It was perfect as I had a slight hangover (thanks Pinot Palooza) and woke me up too. Kayla had a St James punch and loved the fresh fruit in between the courses.

For mains? Grilled prawn jambalaya – topped with delicious seafood and chorizo, this dish is jam-packed full of flavor. But my favourite? You guessed it, the crab. 1kg of freaking delicious mud crab with Baltimore (butter and garlic) sauce. Oh and truffle parmesan fries and salad – both absolutely necessary to go alongside the crab. The crab was soo fresh, juicy, tender and DELICIOUS. I wonder how many times I have written delicious in this blog? I hope the message is getting through – DELICIOUS. NOM.

We smashed the crab, it was sensational and the Baltimore sauce may just be my new favourite.

And! Then there was dessert! Just when you thought I couldn’t eat anymore I surprise you. Now this may be one the best kept secrets of St James. The brownie is no ordinary American brownie. It comes out on a sizzling hotplate! The chocolate sauce is bubbling like mad, the brownie beautiful and warm and the cream & ice cream slowly melting and combining with the sauce…. WOW. Again, wow.

Finally, a twist on their regular key lime pie, we had key lime brûlée. Oh! The crunchy topping was only outdone by the combination of it with the creme brûlée in your mouth. Just supreme and unique flavour combinations.

I’m a big fan of this place if you can’t tell. I obviously think it is DELICIOUS and I can’t wait to go back again for more crab. Mmmm crab.

PS. St James Crabhouse are launching a feast banquet for Summer in Hamilton and Kangaroo Point. It’s going to be fantastic – all of those delicious (there’s that word again) dishes hand picked for you by the Chef so you can just sit back and relax and focus on the food. Just the way it should be!! I’ll let you know when it is on the menu.

Thanks Chef Anton for choosing divine dishes and thanks Bella for the attentive and bubbly service. Fab dining experience.
