I don’t get out for brunch enough. But when I do, I do it well! Hence my visit to Little Red Providore in Brisbane’s Red Hill.
I’d heard that the food here was great and seen a few Instagram posts so had added it to my list of places to visit and the opportunity finally came up and I’m so glad it did.
We found the perfect, most adorable spot, downstairs and outside. There’s a few different sections to the cafe, with inside dining upstairs and downstairs and a cute little outside area too. The cafe is beautifully styled, a rustic feel but definitely chic with interesting pieces to discover all over the place and local treats to take home.
We chose three items off the menu. Choosing them was hard enough, I had to ask the lovely Maya to help me choose! With her suggestions we ordered;
- The 10 hour, slow roasted lamb shoulder and harrissa eggplant pita. Yummmm. Think middle-eastern goodness on a plate. Beautiful, tasty and tender roasted, pulled lamb, with roasted eggplant, labna, pickled onions, hummus, coriander and pomegranate seeds -the perfect pop!
- Mushrooms on brioche. This was my favourite. Hands down, delicious, want more. Swiss brown mushrooms, truffle cream, fresh salsa verde, dukkah and roasted hazelnuts sprinkled with lemon. On brioche. I will be back time and again for this one.
- Sourdough crumpets with vanilla ricotta, chai poached pears, banana, raspberries and flaked almonds. I’m not much of a sweet person (see above for savory example) but this was a lovely way to finish off brunch with a ‘dessert’ plate!
I loved that so many of the items on the menu are local and you can definitely tell (check out the loyalty card wall pic below) that the locals here love this place too.
We soon learnt that there is an AirBnB out the back of the cafe, a charming two story, brick cottage full of old world charm. They rent it out often for feature films and I think it would make an excellent spot to have a workshop. Nice break out spaces and then ta-daaa – fabulous catering at your fingertips.
Be sure to take a wander out to Red Hill and give the adorable and chic Little Red Providore a try!
