Fosh Restaurant is a fantastic location for a long lunch. The waterfront views make it a popular spot, and the ambiance is perfect for enjoying rosé and oysters. While the food is good, the combination of location and atmosphere makes it worth a visit.
Location: Fosh is on the Hamilton waterfront, with picturesque views and a relaxed atmosphere. For seating, I recommend a booth for dinner or outdoor seating during the day to take full advantage of the views.
What we ordered:
- Oysters (Bulmer, Tasmania):
These oysters were creamy and plump. Perfect to pair with a crisp glass of rosé. - Kingfish with Aged Ponzu, Kombu, Chives:
Fresh and delicious with an excellent ponzu sauce. My only complaint? There’s never enough kingfish – it’s too good to stop eating! - Prawn Cocktail with Baby Cos and Marie Rose Sauce:
A deconstructed twist on the classic. While the flavours were there, I personally prefer my prawn cocktail served together rather than separated. - W.A. Octopus with Garlic Labneh, Fennel Jam, and Parsley Dressing:
This dish was flavorful and a little heavier on the sauce than most octopus dishes I’ve had, but it was still really good. - John Dory Fillet with Meunière, Lemon, Caper Butter, Caviar:
A standout dish! The fish was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was buttery and rich, complementing the fillet beautifully. - Village Salad (Tomato, Olives, Cucumber, Feta, Onion, House Vinaigrette):
- Little Farm Leaf Salad (Endive, Cos Lettuce, Red Onion, Parmesan, Sherry Vinaigrette):
Both salads were fresh and crisp – exactly what you’d expect. - Soft Brioche with Sesame, Cultured Butter, Bottarga:
A must-order! This comes steaming hot, and the combination of fluffy brioche and cultured butter is irresistible. Sorry waistline, I really did have good intent.
Vibe Check: Fosh’s waterfront location creates an ideal backdrop for leisurely dining. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, making it perfect for long lunches or casual evenings. While the food didn’t completely blow me away, the overall experience, including the views, made it memorable.
The Service: The service at Fosh is excellent, with staff who are attentive and welcoming. Special mention goes to Dan, the maître d’. He’s both hilarious and professional.
Why I’d Return: Fosh Restaurant is an ideal spot for rosé, oysters, and snacks with friends or family. While the food is on the pricier side, the waterfront views and overall vibe make it worth it.
Final Thoughts: If you’re planning a trip to Hamilton, Fosh should be on your list for its gorgeous location. It’s not the spot for a life-changing meal, but it’s perfect for a relaxing lunch or a light dinner with great service and atmosphere. Bring your appetite, order the brioche and oysters, and enjoy the views.
