Yami | Brunswick Heads

Yami is clearly a Brunswick Heads institution. It came up in almost every recommendation and bit of research I did on the area, and after finally visiting, I can see why.

On my last day, I wanted something casual, refreshing, and light before the drive home, and Yami was perfect. The meal was bigger than I expected, packed with flavour, and exactly what I needed.

Location

Yami is a small, casual spot in Brunswick Heads, set up like a hole-in-the-wall eatery with decking where you can sit undercover but still enjoy the fresh air. It’s always busy—every time I walked past, it was packed, which is always a good sign.

What I Ordered

  • Falafel plate with pita, hummus, tahini, salad, and pickles
  • Chilli on the side

The Details

The falafel was perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, packed with flavour. The pita was soft and fresh, the kind that just makes every bite better. The salad was light and refreshing, the perfect balance to the richness of the hummus, tahini, and falafel.

I loved the pickles—I don’t know if they’re a standard addition to a falafel plate, but I hope so because they cut through the richness beautifully.

I started off eating my falafel inside the pita pocket, but with the portion being so generous, I ended up eating the rest as a salad. Either way, it worked, and I left full and happy.

The chilli on the side was a great choice—delicious, with just the right amount of heat to elevate everything without overpowering it.

Vibe Check

Relaxed, busy, and effortless. Yami is no-fuss, good food done well, the kind of place where you can just sit outside, enjoy your meal, and soak up the Brunswick Heads energy. It’s a simple setup, but that’s all it needs to be.

Why I’d Return

For fresh, simple, delicious falafel in a casual setting, Yami is a winner. Next time, I’d love to try more from the menu, but the falafel plate alone is reason enough to go back.

Final Thoughts

If you’re in Brunswick Heads and want something light, fresh, and full of flavour, Yami is a must. It’s unpretentious, consistently busy, and clearly loved by locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re after a quick bite or a leisurely lunch, you won’t regret stopping by.
