Pitch Black Launches At The New Black, Brisbane

I was lucky that the great peeps at The New Black Brisbane invited me to the launch of their new tapas & drinks nights, Pitch Black.

And when I say lucky, I mean lucky.

I’ve visited this fab cafe for breakfast and raved about how unique their dishes were, and Pitch Black of course, was no exception. These are dishes that you cannot make at home (unless you’re set to go on MasterChef or something), and those are my favourite kind of meals to eat out!

My absolute stand out faves on the new menu were; the signature popcorn chicken, the heirloom tomato salad and the cheeseburger spring rolls.

Yes, I tried the ENTIRE menu!!! It’s all delicious and very reasonably priced so that you can try lots of different items. The wine list is set in the same style, great local wines by the glass so you can try a couple paired with your dishes.

Seriously though, that popcorn chicken really surprised me. I mean, I’ve eaten my fair share of popcorn chicken and it’s usually good but not scream-it-from-the-rooftops-good. It’s set on a creamed sweet corn puree and paired with a jalapeno jam. They let me in on a little secret… they soak the chicken in brine for 24 hours… no wonder it’s delightful!

The other mind blowing thing about The New Black Brisbane is that they make everything in house. Even the mozarella! No surprise the dishes all taste so fresh and flavorsome. With limited space, you’ll even notice that some of their pickled items make for wall decorations.

There’s some very fresh and funky gin cocktails to try. Not your usual run on the mix. Nothing here ever is!!

They’re open Friday & Saturday nights only for Pitch Black from 5-10pm so be sure to grab some friends and get in to try some of the dishes and drinks.
