Vault 21 was also on my list of places to eat in Dunedin! I mean, they have signature dumplings – how could I not have them on my list?! Add to that, I found out they are owned by the same lot as Prohibition Smokehouse which I had thoroughly enjoyed earlier in the week.
Vault 21 features a very cool, modern, and intimate fit-out.
I ordered three small plates instead of a main so I could try lots of things. I hate being limited to one dish. That said, I did nearly go the mushroom truffle risotto – it sounded incredible! Next time…
- Vault 21 award-winning dumplings; prawn, coriander with chili & lime dressing
- Venison Tataki; seared Silver Fern Farms Venison, onion, citrus soy broth, truffle oil, crispy shallots, and baby watercress
- Asian Slaw; peanuts, coriander, kewpie mayo and crispy glass noodle
So, I kicked off with their prawn signature dumplings, no surprises there really. They were great.
Next up, the venison tataki and Asian slaw. I love a good tataki! I do wonder if the venison could have been a little less chilled for more flavor – that said, I’m not a Chef! The slaw was refreshing and I felt like I got my hit of vegetables (always challenging while traveling) – the crunch of the peanuts was excellent.
Vault 21 would be a great spot for corporate catch ups. I’ll be back for the risotto!
