The Strong Room Restaurant | Feilding NZ

I’ve visited The Strong Room Restaurant and Bar in Feilding for a quick lunch but never for dinner. It’s one of the more high-end places in Feilding and often quite busy. As always, I perused the menu prior to visiting to work out what I would try.

We started with the bruschetta. A last minute decision, but a good one. It was made on garlic bread which I loved and with gourmet cherry tomatoes. The feta and balsamic all tied in perfectly – would recommend kicking off your meal with the bruschetta.

On arrival, I couldn’t decide between the lamb rack on puy lentils with beetroot fondant and edamame, or a grilled steak. I ended up choosing the lamb rack – it was delicious. Perfectly cooked lamb racks – crispy on the outside, rare and moist on the inside. The challenge with eating lamb racks in a restaurant is trying to politely get off all the meat! It’s also a great meal not to feel too full after eating.

The steaks come with salad and onion rings – I saw a few go out which looked quite delicious too. I think I would go for that next time.

I enjoyed a Mt Difficulty Pinot Noir with my meal – it always pairs well with rare red meats. I drank some of the earlier vintages in Queenstown recently and was very impressed.

Almost forgot, I tried a lava cake! I’m not usually one for sweet dessert and I think I went too far with this, I ate the cake itself but not the lava filling or the rest. It was all delicious, just a bit too sweet for me.

I’d also like to try their pappardelle sometime. The list grows!
