Day one done! Right?!

Had my first day at my new job Monday. I’m the Marketing Coordinator for CEFA, an early learning group. I work in the head office and do all the marketing for all the franchises – 19 schools.

It’s lots of fun because I get to be creative with content creation & design work and its for kids right? So it’s all bright and colourful and fun.

Jay and Carso came over for dinner and Jay cooked delicious mince tacos with lettuce wraps, fresh guac and salsa. Was amazing!

See what I did there with the right?
It’s said Canadians say ‘aye’ a lot but I’ve hardly heard that. What I do hear is ‘right?’ On the end of every sentence. FYI the appropriate answer is ‘right.’

Now I know why everyone in Vancouver wears gumboots.

My morning has been hilariously unfortunate.

It actually started last night. There was no hot water for my shower. A little pissed off I retired to bed happy in the thought that I would have one in the morning. WRONG. No hot water this morning either.

So without a proper shower I ran around and got ready. Took a bite of my home made bran muffin only to find it was now mouldy. Lucky I have avo on toast to compensate.

Then I walked to the bus. I knew it was raining but I couldn’t tell quite how bad from my 18th floor apartment. It was pissing down. It’s a 10min walk to the bus. By the time I got there I was saturated. My pants were sticking to my legs, my butt was wet from my umbrella dripping on it… I was a mess. It was in this moment that I realised why all Vancouver-ites wear gumboots.

It was also in said moment that in my no-hot-water-mouldy-muffin rush that I realised that while I had grabbed my handbag, I hadn’t grabbed my purse. With my money. And my bus card. And the rest of my most needed possessions in life. I actually laughed out loud at my calamity. I talked my way on the bus and was pondering how I would buy lunch, get home, pay for the docs this arvo etc when I found a card – HALLELUJAH – I could now buy lunch and go to the docs and use transport.

To celebrate I bought a regular almond chai latte. I don’t know what they think regular is but this was regular size for a four year old. And still $4.20. Unimpressed but amused I wandered to work and now I sit here wondering how the rest of my day will pan out…

Clever, humourous marketing

I really do think that New Zealand ace it at marketing. See what I did there? You will soon.

From Tui billboards to AIR NZ we are great at integrating humour and personality into our brands. Plus we are innovative! Okay I’m getting carried away and slightly patriotic. Back on topic…

So I came across this in a blog from @envycollect and thought I would share it! It’s a marketing billboard from Ace car hire in NZ.

whaka Ace Ad

Whaka yeah!*

*If you are not from New Zealand you may not understand why this is clever. I’m going to be blunt here. Anyone needing censorship look away now…
Okay we good? So whaka in Maori (native NZ language) is pronounced Fucka or Fucker. Get it now?!

Taupo on a platter

I have accomplished to eat at both the restaurants I set out to – The Bantry & The Plateau.

Both were fantastic.

Last night at The Bantry I went with the Crab Cake for my entree which was really average and I wouldn’t recommend. It was rather doughy and not very crabby.

My main was delightful though – pork belly confit with a smooth kumara purée.

Service was great – attentive waiter with a sense of humor.

Oh! And the elderberry & apple cider was beautiful.

Tonight we dined at The Plateau. Again, great service. I had pan seared scallops on a cauliflower purée with bacon which was just mouth watering. Cooked to perfection. My main was a chilli, lime & coriander prawn linguine. I’m not sure they were prawns – I’d call them shrimp. It was lovely but slightly sickening after a while. Very strong sauce.

All in all great dining experiences!
