Long weekend – who knew?!

So this weekend was a long weekend. I had no idea!

If I knew I would have organised something. As it was I ended up working Monday anyway.

Friday started with drinks with the work ladies, 2 jugs of sangria later I was we’ll in my way for a good night. I had Jay, Merica and Heather over for drinks then we headed out. Was supposed to be a club VIP launch night but it was just guest list. One of the girls didn’t love the vibe so we didn’t even stay for a drink we just headed straight to Cabana.

Cabana was fun as always and we danced the night away. No idea what time I got home? 3am maybe?

Saturday I went shopping, I went to Victoria’s Secret and came out with 6 items πŸ™‚ I love that place. I bought a top and some jewellery then met Maeghan for a coffee. We ended up heading back to mine so I could give her a bday gift and I cooked her fettuccine carbonara for dinner. Talked on the phone to my parents, watched a movie with Scott chewing on lollies and suddenly it was 2am and I missed my early night in.

Sunday I slept till 11, without waking! I was happily surprised. Next thing I knew Jay was over and we were an hour late for the Veuve Cliquot brunch, which started at 2pm.

It was a ticketed event, $30pp and included welcome champagne and brunch. Parlour did an awesome job with the food and staff and CanThrill did an amazing job with the event. It was sold out, full of happy people sculling Veuve & Grey Goose from the bottle. I love events like that, 4pm felt like 1am and I had lots of fun.

We ended up going to dinner at Global for dinner, the Chefs special which was one of the best meals I’ve had in Van. Rare rib eye, lobster, prawns it was perfect. Prob could have appreciated it more if it wasn’t for my drunken state.

With the intention of going out we headed back to SKLAs for some drinks but we all became lazy and Jay and I rocked home about 12.30am.

Poor Jay had a fever come on overnight and was sick as by morning so I spent the day tending to her needs while she watched movies, the good housewife that I am. I made veggie soup, dispensed pharmaceutical drugs, got coconut water and lemons etc.

In the arvo I sat down to work until mid evening then went to bed early and read.

All in all it turned out to be a great long weekend!

Vancouver Halloween

I love how they really get into the Halloween spirit around here. From pumpkin picking to decorating, food and dressing up there’s always something to see.

Apartment owners and restaurants get into the spirit, many of them are dressed up. We mucked around with masks at work too.

Halloween night I went to the Cabana Masquerade party. It was fun but the best part was walking around Granville! With the road closed off there were swarms of people all dressed up as anything you could think of. I could have just sat there and watched them for hours. I would have actually, except it was a school night so I was home by 1 in order to be sprightly at work the next day.

Joey Burnaby

For Uka’s going away party we headed to Joey Burnaby.

We shared plates, the ahi tuna tacos, chilli chicken and beach salad, all of which were awesome. Highly recommend the tacos and the salad – although it could have done with some more feta!

All the girls that work there were just gorgeous. No chance of getting a job there if you’re not stunning.

Oh my goodness! I almost forgot the choc lava cake! It’s amazing! Delicious! Get it!!

I arrived just before six and saw they had a Happy Hour menu that finished at 6. I was going to get a laksa and luckily for me that was on the Happy Hour menu with an assortment of the entrees for just $3 more.

Unfortunately for me, Vanessa was half an hour late. The lovely waitress still offered the special though, I think she felt sorry for me for waiting for so long.

I was actually shocked at how many appetisers we got to try! There was calamari, spring rolls, chicken satay, salad and roti. Roti was all I really wanted – I love that stuff and they do it well at Banana Leaf.

The Singapore Laksa came with a variety of prawns, chicken, calamari and other random seafood. I goes stats why I didn’t like it so much. It tasted too seafoody… I love seafood. But I love it fresh and more than often raw and this just didn’t really float my boat. Vanessa ordered hers without the seafood though and really enjoyed it.

Ain’t no party like a Halloween party!

At least in Canada there isn’t anyway. These guys go all out! The shops, houses, restaurants – all decked out in its spookiest finest.

Sat night I went to a Halloween party – they have them the weekend before when they fall during the week as is the case this year. I was totally unprepared and my mate forgot to grab my hat – the only actual costume piece that defined my character.

Anyway! I was 2 hours late to my own party after being in Harrison off roading a lot longer than expected. So I was running through town trying to find a hat. I was going to be a pin up sailor girl but could only find a pilots hat so that’s what I ended up being.

Didn’t have time to grab dinner or drinks, my phone had died and I wasn’t even sure if my friend had managed to get in to my apartment. Low and behold when I arrived, she was happy as sitting at the table, wearing my clothes a d surrounded by my roomies friends. She prob didn’t even notice that I was late.

We ran around like headless chickens getting ready, more people turned up, I ate some noodles in a cup and we were off again!

The party was on the 18th floor in Olympic Village. Amazing views and completely decorated – spiderwebs and spiders everywhere, people all done up. One chick actually had me thinking she might kill me. I said ‘your wigs pretty.’ She replied, ‘not as pretty as the knife behind my back’ in a freaky dolls voice, I get the shivers just thinking about it.

Eventually we got bored and headed to Cabana. It was crazy busy. The doormen recognised me from the night before and snuck us straight in through the crowd. Inside was packed, I spent my time half dancing, half checking out all the costumes.

4am comes around and the few of us left in the club did a great ‘synchronised’ dance to New York, New York. Which was really quite appropriate as Jay and I will be there in just over a month.

S out my roomie called us when we got outside and we met him at a Chinese restaurant. At 4am there was a 20min wait to get seated but he got us in. I was super excited but 40mins later and still no food I wasn’t quite so happy. So I threw $5 on the table and walked out to get pizza.

Did I mention I found $100 note on the ground? I thought it was a friend of mine but he assured me it wasn’t his so I bought everyone drinks.

Finally got home at 5am and Jay, Scott and I put on a movie. 1.5hrs later my eyes were literally rolling back in my head and I’d been up 24hours. Sleep time!
