Muharam Cafe, Hawthorn

Lisa took me to a place she normally just stops for coffee in for brunch.

Muharam Cafe is another casual, funky cafe nestled in the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn.

I ordered a apple and orange juice (it was all they had for fresh) which was a nice, refreshing start but nothing too exciting.

We both went for The Stack breakfast. A potato rosti, stacked with spinach, smoked salmon, another rosti, a poached egg and apparently truffle oil. Why apparently? Well we couldn’t taste it. Must have been the tiniest of dashes.

All was well to start with (apart from the lack of truffle oil) and it wasn’t until half way through that I realised just how oily the rosti was.

We settled the bill and on the walk home both felt quite ill due to all the additional oil that was now resting in out stomachs.

Liar Liar, Hawthorn

A friend of mine took me to Liar Liar in Hawthorn. I hadn’t even had time to look it up. I had no idea just how good it was going to be!

There was a ten minute wait to get in but there were puppies outside to play with so no problems there.

We were ushered in to a table and the first thing I see is this amazing avocado dish making its way across the floor to a lucky patron. I knew there and then that was what I would be ordering.

Our server was absolutely delightful. He looked so happy just to be there and was smiling and joking the whole time while being attentive. If I opened a cafe, I would poach him.

Anyway I ordered a Purple Sunrise Juice, fresh carrot, beetroot, celery, apple and ginger. Just what I crave after a night out to attempt to feel human again. It was delicious.

Of course I ordered the Smashed Avocado ($17) –  Feta, Avocado Smash + Maple Glazed Bacon + Two Poached Eggs + Sourdough Toast + Dukkah.

I can not tell you how phenomenal this combination is. The sourness of the feta mixes with the sweetness of the maple. It’s the maple that makes the dish. I highly recommend.

I couldn’t even eat it all but I didn’t want to waste it so I ended up scraping the delicious mix off the toast. Yum.

Go there. Try it. Then thank me.

You’re welcome.

Rococo, Hawthorn, Melbourne

I’m seriously going to have to up my work out routine in this city! All this amazing Italian food, I can’t help but visit and stuff myself full of pasta!

Last night out coffee didn’t cut it so we continued on to Rococo in Hawthorne. Is heard the rumours this place was good, but wow.

Starting with cocktails (arguably the most important) I let the waitress choose for me and was delivered a apple and passion fruit mojito. Very sweet but very good.

For our starter the three of us shared the char grilled calamari, with a dash of fresh lemon and I followed that with the spaghetti with char grilled seafood in a lemon and garlic olive oil. It was absolutely devine. I can not fault it and my biggest issue was deciding when to stop eating as I was considerably full!!

I couldn’t possibly fit dessert but my friend ordered the affogato from which I stole a cookie and to my delight it was amaretto flavoured! 20140717-155506-57306011.jpg
