CHANEL, luxury pampering in Brisbane CBD

Did you know that CHANEL offers facials?! AND, that there is a CHANEL beauty room at Myer in Brisbane? I didn’t. And damn I was excited when I found out and was invited to visit!

I had the absolute pleasure of being pampered by a CHANEL specialist, Mellissa. She welcomed me and led me into a private room behind the makeup counters labelled Espace Beaute. She had a charisma and charm that immediately made me feel relaxed and comfortable with her.

Mellissa analysed my skin and talked me through how I could improve some issues I had found of late. She was helpful and considerate. We discussed the different CHANEL skin products and chose what I would have during my treatment. Hydration and exfoliation come at me!

What happened next, I can barely remember. I was completely and utterly relaxed with the dim lighting, soft music, wrapped up and pampered by Mellissa. There was cleansing, serums and toning, masks and exfoliation.

I even had a hand massage while the mask was on. It was absolute bliss. In fact I was so blissed out, Mellissa practically had to wake me at the end of the treatment.

If you spend $100 on products at CHANEL, they are redeemable for a facial treatment or makeup application. There are only six CHANEL specialists in QLD and they are often en route to Sydney to Chanel’s Australian HQ for training on new products, techniques and innovations in the skincare industry so you’ll need to book in advance. Believe me though, it’s worth the wait!

Meet the Maker – Veuve Clicquot

The Veuve Clicquot Chef de Cave (winemaker), Dominque Demarville, hosted a tasting of this famous Champagne house’s top wines, including the brand new ‘Extra Brut Extra Old’ at Cru Bar. I had the absolute pleasure of joining the event (thanks Ka Lei) and learning from the master himself as well as tastings.

We were very lucky to be some of the first in Australia to try the new Extra Brut Extra Old bottle, drawn from the house’s famous collection of reserve wines, in particular the 1988, 1996, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 vintages. It is double aged- three years on lees in vats (up to 5% oak), then three years in bottle before release. It is best drunk now than held.

The House of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin has been a leading Champagne producer for over 200 years and is one of the largest owners of vineyards in the entire region. This long history, coupled with the resources at hand, allows for some extremely complex and memorable wines to be made.

It was very rare to have the Chef de Cave of a major Champagne house in Brisbane to take us through his wines. I loved his explanation of ‘the champagne effect’ where the more champagne consumed, the more conversations flow!

Of course, upon questioning, Mr Demarville could not provide a favourite, he loves them all the same!

Spa Intercontinental, Wellington

I had the delight of experiencing one of Wellington’s best Day Spa’s while I was visiting last week.

After hearing about the renovations at the Intercontinental Hotel Wellington, I booked in for the thermal mud mask and massage signiture experience at Spa Intercontinental for some R&R at the end of my trip.

I felt well taken care of from the moment I walked in and met my therapist. She talked me through my treatment (eep mud!) and led me into a beautiful, low lit room.

The treatment began with a back cleanse, before the mud was applied. Glorious warm Rotorua mud allllll over my back. My back was then wrapped up and my head massage began.

I don’t know about you, but when I have a head massage, my eyes start rolling back in my head. It’s another state of relaxation all together for me. I never want it to end.

Once the mud wrap was washed off my back I had a lovely back, neck and shoulder oil massage to finish. My skin is super smooth – I highly recommend.

When the treatment was over, I was left to put on my robe and relax in the lounge with an assortment of teas and healthy snacks. Bliss!

I’m eyeing up another signiture treatment for next time I am in the country!

Thai Touch Massage & Day Spa – Newstead, Brisbane

Remember how rainy and terrible the weather was on Saturday? Yeah. I did the best thing possible, I headed in to the new day spa in Newstead, Brisbane for some treatments!

Thai Touch Massage has beautiful, traditional decor, warm lighting and is very inviting. The lovely ladies make you feel very welcome and at home immediately. Just what you would expect from a luxury day spa, really!

I tried the Signature Thai Massage first. It was lovely and relaxing and I was stretched right out (almost like light yoga). I was left feeling totally loose and limber. Not to mention blissed out and relaxed. The girls definitely know what they’re doing.

I had the spa facial next. Talk about relaxing! I let the ladies look after everything while I enjoyed the pampering. Lovely Thai products, more massaging. The scalp massage has got to be one of my favourites. I always feel like going to sleep after!

I was left feeling like I was floating away on a cloud!

You should see the spa bath in the couples treatment room! I will certainly be back soon.
